Today went alot smoother for preschool. I planned out alot more stuff that was active and we were constantly doing something different. That seems to really work well with the kids. Today we talked about the number two and I did some fun stuff that the kids seemed to enjoy. I made some spy glasses out of toilet paper rolls and called it the Number Spy game. I explained to the kids that our spy glasses would help us to find numbers in all sorts of places. I put the number 2 on a black square (color and shape of the month) and then taped them throughout the house. We went on the hunt to find them and when each kid found one they got to put a sticker on the paper. Once the figured out the game then I told them we were going to go outside and see if we could find any number 2's. It made me giggle watching them hold up their spy glasses trying to find the number two. I was really impressed at how many they found, I was super proud of them!
After the spy game. I gave them each a little fish tank that I made out of construction paper. We talked about pets and what we have to do to take care of them. Then I told them that we were going to go to the pet store and pick out two fish that they could take home. They really had fun with this! They started singing as we went around the house, "We're going to the pet store, we're going to the pet store!" Super cute. So then they picked out two fish and glued them to their fish tank. I thought it was fun.
After that we did storytime, yes Miss Susie made an appearance, which the kids loved! We read some number books and some family books. Our theme this month was "All about me/Our families" so after we read some books, I had each of them talk to me about their families. If they had brothers or sisters. Things about their moms and dads. After that I told them we were going to decorate a frame to put a family picture on that they could hang on their fridge. I had the moms deliver pictures beforehand and I made the frame out of cardstock with a magnet glued to the back. They used their crayons and foam stickers to decorate the frame. It was cute to see them get excited when I handed out the pictures to glue. One little boy was like "Its my family! I love my family! This is my mommy, this is my daddy, etc" Adorable!
Then our last activity was a matching game. They each took turns matching one picture to another and then had to count how many-which always equaled two. I hope by the end of today that they got the number two! Fun day and I enjoyed teaching this week. Next time will be Halloween-can I express how excited I am to be in charge of the kids Halloween class party?! WHOO-HOO!!!!
